Physics of the Earth Track for Individualized Major in Geosciences:
PHYSICS OF THE EARTH introduces students to the physics underlying processes which occur in the solid Earth and the hydrosphere.
Are you interested in understanding how physics is used to understand geological processes? How seismic waves can be used to visualize the deep Earth? How fluids circulate? How different technologies can image the shallow subsurface so as to address environmental concerns? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, consider enrolling in the Individualized Major in Integrative Geosciences Physics of the Earth Track.
  
Coursework:
In addition to the required core courses , the Physics of the Earth track requires the following coursework:
I. PHYSICS OF THE EARTH CLASSES:
Three courses from the following group (no more than one course can be GEOL):
GEOL 274: Physics of the Earth's Interior (3cr)
GEOL 278: Applied and Environmental Geophysics (3cr)
MARN 235: Environmental Fluid Dynamics (3cr)
MARN 270: Descriptive Physical Oceanography (3cr)
PHYS 220: Computational Physics (3cr)
Total: 9 credits
II. RESEARCH, INFORMATION LITERACY, AND APPLIED COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
Choose one of the following options:
OPTION 1 : 6 credits with at least 1 course from each of the following groups:
Group 1 :
CE 271: Geomatics and Spatial Measurement (4cr)
EEB 293W: Methods of Ecology (4cr)
GEOG 232: Principles and Applications of Physical Geography (4cr)
GEOL 213: Spring Field Trip (3cr)
GEOL 257: Field Problems in Earth Structure (1cr)
MARN 212: Measurement and Analysis in Coastal Ecosystems (3cr)
Group 2 :
GEOL 293/294: Internship in Geology and Geophysics - Field Study/Research Paper (2-4cr)
